Gnadenbild Maria Weissenstein
Maria Weissenstein is a place of pilgrimage in South Tyrol, Italy. The abbey of Maria Weissenstein came into being after Mary appeared to the ailing farmer Leonhard Weissensteiner and miraculously cured him. This happened in 1553.
To give thanks for his cure, Weissensteiner built a chapel where other people could go to ask Mary for help. The chapel soon became a destination for many pilgrims. In 1673 the baroque church and abbey were built. In Italian the site is known as Pietralba.
