Madonna del Sangue
The altar of the Madonna of the Blood in Re, Val Vigezzo, Italy. According to legend the picture of Mary bled for twenty days in 1494 after a young boy flung a coin at it.
Mater Dolorosa
This is an image I created for Lent last year.
It was inspired by a German statue from the 14th century known as the Rottgen pietà , a very graphic image of Mary holding Jesus’ body after the crucifixion.
