Matka Boska Piekarska
The miraculous image of Our Lady of Piekary Śląskie in Poland.
The icon has been an object of pilgrimages since 1659, when it suddenly began to spread a smell of roses. The local priest moved the picture from one of the church’s side altars and placed it above the high altar, where it can still be seen today.
Mater Misericordiae
A painting of the miraculous icon of the Mother of Mercy, venerated in the chapel above the Gate of Dawn (Aušros Vartai) in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
The image is venerated worldwide by Lithuanian and Polish Catholics. In Poland it is known as the ‘Matki Boskiej Ostrobramskiej’, or Our Lady of Ostra Brama. The Russian Orthodox Church also acknowledges the image as miraculous.
Maryi Panny Licheńskiej
A painting of the miraculous image of Mary venerated in Licheń Stary, a village in Poland.
The sanctuary of Our Lady of Licheń was completed in 2004 and is Poland’s largest church. The miraculous image is placed above its main altar. It is venerated under the title Our Lady of Sorrows, Queen of Poland. After Częstochowa the church is Poland’s most important place of pilgrimage.
