Rostros de Maria: the Virgin as Archetype and Inspiration - San Antonio Museum of Art, until Feb. 20
The San Antonio Museum of Art currently hosts an exhibition about Mary. It was organised to complement their exhibition about Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love.
Curator Marion Oettinger expains: “I said, ‘What I’d like to do is have lots of images of the Virgin and perhaps treat her as kind of a continuation of the archetypal feminine and show how we have such a broad variation on the theme of the mother of Christ’”.
The exhibition focuses on many local images of Mary from Spain and Latin America. It highlights how people and nations all over the world have made Mary an inherent part of their faith, culture and traditions.
